What is Planned Giving?
Some people think it is merely estate planning or bequest giving from your will, but planned giving is much more. There are several instruments that allow you to pass wealth to your family both before and after passing. Much of planned giving is oriented to tax saving however; it can provide many additional benefits to the donor, the family and charities of your choice.
I’m not that old and I'm not wealthy…why consider planned giving?
Many believe you must be late in life to organize your final financial affairs but a good Estate Plan will also consider timing of wealth accumulation and wealth transfer. Young people have years to execute a plan and will likely change it as life conditions change so it is never too early to start. Good planning benefits all financial levels and most are surprised how much they can transfer through good planning.
How do I get started?
It is simple. The Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation has a nationally-recognized planned giving consultant, Thompson and Associates, on retainer and available to you at no charge. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to plan according to their desires. We will make an appointment for you to meet privately with the consultant in a totally confidential arrangement to design your plan.
But I have an Estate Plan and spent a lot on advisors to get it done, so why do I need to do it again?
Yes, many of us have but it never hurts to have a second opinion, especially if it is at no cost. In fact, a large majority of plans reviewed by our consultant end up being enhanced to yield better results for the donor, family and charities that they support.
What’s in it for Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation?
First of all we believe all of our community members should have access to good planning to improve their life and their legacy. Secondly, we hope you will include a charitable component in your plan that benefits LMHF; however, there is certainly no requirement to do so. We know the power and benefit of a good estate plan and know that it will benefit your family and your peace of mind for creating the plan you desire to leave as your legacy.

The process is exceedingly simple. You just contact us to set an appointment and our consultant will do the rest. There will be an initial meeting to understand the process and timing and then subsequent follow-up meetings for data collection and plan development. If, at any time, you wish to discontinue you can. The consultant will design the plan and your advisors (attorneys, accountants, etc.) will draft the plan. Thompson & Associates does not draft documents, sell products or solicit funds for anything. Their fee is paid fully by the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation.
